
Susan Henley is an accomplished Canadian stage and screen actor with a career spanning over 45 years in the performing arts. Known for her versatility in both musical theatre and drama, she has performed in major productions across North America and is a mainstay in the Canadian theatre community.
Stratford Festival and Stage Career
Henley spent three seasons at the Stratford Festival, Canada’s premier Shakespearean and classical theatre venue. Her work there is highlighted by her performance in the musical Irma La Douce, where she played the title character, Irma.
Beyond Stratford, her extensive theatre credits include:
• Charlottetown Festival: Seven seasons, most notably playing Marilla in Anne of Green Gables at the Confederation Centre of the Arts.
• Mirvish Productions: Velma Von Tussel in the Canadian premiere and first U.S. National Tour of Hairspray.
• Most Recently: In 2025, Susan starred as Vera in Alan Doyle’s Tell Tale Harbour at Mirvish’s Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto.
• Other Notable Credits: Susan has appeared at Soulpepper (A Christmas Carol, Spoon River); the National Arts Centre (Jacques Brel); and Canadian Stage (The House of Martin Guerre).
Film and Television
Henley has a steady presence on screen, appearing in various television series and films, including:
• TV Series: Saving Hope (Dr. Karen Carter), and the comedy Crawford.
• Film: Supporting roles in Hairspray, The Long Kiss Goodnight, and the TV movie The Comedy of Errors, where she played the Courtesan.
Personal Life and Collaborations
Susan Henley shared a Dora Mavor Moore award for her work in Closer Than Ever. She was also awarded the Elizabeth Mawson Scholarship for Performance (Charlottetown Festival).
